MOSFET
MOSFETs or Metal Oxide Silicon Field Effect Transistors were invented to overcome the disadvantages posed by FETs, such as the slow operation, high drain resistance, and moderate input impedance. It is a four-terminal device having source(S), gate (G), drain (D) and body (B) terminals. In general, The body of the MOSFET is in connection with the source terminal thus forming a three-terminal device such as a field-effect transistor.
In a MOSFET, the gate electrode is used to control the flow of current between the source and drain. When a voltage is applied to the gate, it creates an electric field that modulates the conductivity of the channel between the source and drain. This allows the MOSFET to act as a switch or an amplifier, depending on the specific application.
MOSFET is a voltage controlled unidirectional device employed in both the analog and digital circuits. There are two main types of MOSFETs: n-channel and p-channel. The type of MOSFET used in a circuit depends on the specific application and the required characteristics of the transistor.
